Job Description

We have an exciting full-time opportunity for an entry-level Civil Designer in our Blacksburg office.

The opportunity:

An integral part of our Engineering Services division, this full-time position will execute on the following critical aspects of our business:

* Develop and modify detailed drawings for municipal, environmental and land development projects as needed.

* Calculate actual distances, dimensions and quantities using specified design software.

* Work closely with engineers and project managers to ensure accuracy of project drawings and timeliness of development.

* Ensure client standards are followed in all design plans.

* Work across service lines to serve in other functional areas as needed, such as survey, inspection, etc.

The candidate:

The ideal candidate for this position must have or be the following:

* A self-starter with an undergraduate education in a formal engineering discipline, preferably in civil engineering. We will also actively consider candidates that have a two-year degree in computer aided design and can demonstrate capacity.

* Be flexible to work outside areas of concentration as needed; including helping with survey teams as needed, or working with other field crews to ensure project completion.

* Possess a can-do, team-player disposition, with a willingness to learn on the go.

* Possess or be willing to obtain shortly after hire an EIT designation with Virginia DPOR.

* Have a valid Virginia driver’s license.

This position reports directly to our Engineering Directors and to the Vice President of Engineering in our Blacksburg office.
