JOE W. MEREDITH, Ph.D.

BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Meredith is currently the President of the Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center (CRC) in Blacksburg, Virginia. The CRC consists of over 140 high-technology companies and research centers that employ over 2000 people. In 1997 the CRC was named, “Best Practice in Technology Transfer and Research Centers” in the eight-state, mid-Atlantic region. The CRC has been one of three national finalists for the “Excellence in Technology-Led Economic Development Award” from the Department of Commerce.

In addition to managing the operation of the center, Dr. Meredith facilitates technology transfer from the university, increases the level of sponsored research at Virginia Tech, and markets the CRC to prospective tenants.

Previously, Dr. Meredith held a variety of management positions for a major defense contractor in research and development, engineering, data processing, integrated logistics support, and marketing.

Dr. Meredith holds a Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering from Virginia Tech, a Master's degree in Aeronautics, Astronautics, and Engineering Science from Purdue University, and a Ph.D. in Industrial and Systems Engineering from Virginia Tech. He also is a graduate of the Defense Systems Management College's Program Management Course.

Dr. Meredith is on the Board of Directors of Virginia Tech Intellectual Properties, Inc.; the Board of Trustees of the Montgomery Regional Hospital; the Advisory Board of the Virginia Tech Business/Technology Center; member and former Vice Chairman of the Montgomery Regional Economic Development Commission; the Board of Directors of the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce; Member of the College of Engineering’s Committee of 100; Member of the ISE Academy of Distinguished Alumni; Co-Director of the New Century Council’s Vital Signs Committee; member of the Board of the Accelerating Innovation Foundation; former member of the Board of Directors of the New River Valley Economic Development Alliance; former Chairman of the Alliance R&D Committee; Chairman of First National Bank’s Blacksburg Advisory Committee, Former President of the Christiansburg-Blacksburg Rotary Club, Former Member of the Board of Trustees of the Montgomery-Floyd Regional Library, and Virginia Tech’s former representative to the New River Planning District Commission.

Dr. Meredith was named “Business Person of the Year – 2001” by the Blacksburg Regional Chamber of Commerce and received the NewVA Corridor Technology Council's 2008 Leadership Award. He is an adjunct professor in the Industrial and Systems Engineering Department at Virginia Tech and continues to teach.
