Neuropsychiatry links psychiatric symptoms to Brain-Body function—neurotransmitter circuits in the brain and body

The Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center (VTCRC) welcomes Dr. John Ingram Walker to the research park, where he will operate his private neuropsychiatric practice while serving as Associate Professor of Psychiatry at Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM).

Dr. Walker’s experience is impressive and extensive in the field of psychiatry. He owned and operated an 18-staff psychiatric clinic in Central Texas and was medical director for HCA Hill Country Hospital in San Antonio and, later, the 12-county St. Joseph Regional Health Center, Bryan-College Station, Texas.

Academically he had a joint medical and psychiatric appointment at Duke University Medical Center where he served as Director of the Combined Medical Services Unit and Director of Continuing Medical Education in Psychiatry. When he returned to his home state of Texas, Dr. Walker was appointed Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at University of Texas Health Science Center, San Antonio.

Dr. Walker seems a master of all trades, as he is a distinguished author, national speaker and researcher. He has written 13 books; one of which, Leverage Your Time:  Balance Your Life, has become a corporate best seller. Dr. Walker makes speeches around the country on sales and marketing strategies, industrial change, time management and stress management. As a researcher, he has experience as a National Fellow in Research Training at the National Institute of Mental Health and as a Senior Fellow at the Center for the Study of Aging and Human Development at Duke Medical Center.

Walker earned a Bachelor of Arts at Southwestern University, his Doctor of Medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston and did his residency at Duke University School of Medicine.
