Approximately 15 hours per week

Work Hours:              
Flexible, during normal business hours (8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.) + possibility of a few after hours for research park events

About the Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center (VTCRC):

Established in 1985, the 230-acre Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center (VTCRC) boasts more than 33 buildings with over 3,000 employees and is home to 185+ private companies and research centers. The VTCRC is owned and managed by the Virginia Tech Foundation, a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit nonstock corporation established in 1948. The VTCRC strives to develop a growing, prestigious research park for high-technology companies and in collaboration with the university, advance the research, educational and technology transfer missions of Virginia Tech.

Internship position summary:

The VTCRC seeks an internship position to assist the Business Development and Communications Manager with marketing-related projects, writing and editing, social media, promotional design, and other administrative duties. The communications intern will work directly with the Business Development and Communications Manager and other members of the VTCRC staff. The intern will participate in a variety of activities including web-based projects, research, writing and event planning efforts. The position will involve a heavy emphasis on developing and expanding the VTCRC’s online presence, social networking outreach and writing content.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Promotional design
  • Develop content for press releases, e-newsletters, email and print
  • Conduct interviews with companies located at the VTCRC for stories and spotlights
  • Maintain files and media list management
  • Distribution of promotional materials
  • Assist with social media presence on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn
  • Assist with event planning efforts
  • Other projects within the realm of media and communications
