SUMMARY:Tech Talk: Forecast Tools and Technology in the NWS with Adam Baker
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the return of Tech Talks—bringing together ideas\, insights\, and conversations that matter. \nDate: May 19\, 2026 | Third Tuesday of each month\nTime: 7:30 AM\nLocation: 2200 Kraft Dr.\, Suite 1325\, Blacksburg\, VA \n \nTitle: Forecast Tools and Technology in the NWS \nAbstract: The way we forecast is constantly changing as our technology and tools advance. This talk will cover examples of such and demonstrate how we provide a more tailored customer forecast to aid in decision support of various hazardous weather\, including a shift from deterministic to probabilistic information. \nBio: As the Science and Operations Officer here at the Blacksburg NWS Office\, I ensure the staff of forecasters are trained on the latest technology\, tools\, and techniques to stay proficient in forecast and warning operations. I also try to infuse research and academia into operations having a strong connection with universities such as Virginia Tech. Prior to Blacksburg\, I have also forecast at the Atlanta and Indianapolis NWS offices following my graduation from NC State. My overall interest in weather mainly came about from experiencing the 1993 Storm of the Century\, Hurricanes Bertha and Fran in 1996 and pretty much every thunderstorm. \n\nBrought to you by the VTCRC Tenant Advisory Council\nRegister HERE

SUMMARY:MCCC Solopreneur Webinar: Digital Tools for Marketing & Efficiency - May 2026
DESCRIPTION:This series is designed for solo business owners and micro-operations who may find it difficult to attend in-person events. Each session is one hour long\, completely online\, and focused on the practical topics that matter most to you: sharpening your marketing skills\, staying on top of finances\, handling legal and regulatory issues\, unlocking technology tools\, and more. \nThose registered will receive a Zoom link by email prior to the event start time. \nThis session will cover the topic of Digital Tools for Marketing & Efficiency\, and will be presented by Keith Brophy. Keith is the founder of KeyBuzz Digital\, a digital marketing consultancy focused on helping small businesses\, solopreneurs\, and brands improve visibility\, efficiency\, and results through smart digital strategy. With 18+ years of experience across SEO\, reputation management\, analytics\, and marketing automation\, Keith specializes in helping business owners cut through noise\, use the right tools (not all the tools)\, and build sustainable systems that actually support growth. \nRunning a business means wearing a lot of hats—and digital marketing often becomes the one that causes the most frustration. This session is built for solopreneurs who want to simplify their marketing without piling on more tools\, more cost\, or more confusion. Rather than focusing on specific platforms\, this session helps attendees learn how to evaluate marketing tools\, assess what their business actually needs\, and make confident decisions without a technical background. We’ll walk through practical frameworks for choosing the right tools\, avoiding unnecessary software\, and building simple\, repeatable workflows that support everyday operations. \nKey takeaways include: \n\nAn introductory overview of the types of marketing tools available to help you organize\, execute\, monitor\, and report on your efforts\nHow to assess your real marketing needs before buying another tool\nA simple framework for evaluating marketing products and platforms\nHow to spot overbuilt or unnecessary tech before it drains time or budget\nHow to design lightweight workflows that work with your business—not against it\n\nThe goal isn’t to use more tools—it’s to make smarter decisions\, reduce noise\, and build a marketing system that’s sustainable as your business grows.
