Automation Creations, Inc. (ACI) develops custom software for the web, mobile devices and desktop computers. ACI employees specialize in writing code, project management, software training, quality assurance, graphic design, network management and hardware maintenance. ACI not only offers IT support to other companies in the park, but to customers worldwide.

Services include:

  • Consultation, strategy and infrastructure design
  • Disaster recovery and data backup planning and implementation
  • Desktop, laptop and mobile setup and software installation
  • Firewalls, routers and virus and malware protection
  • Networking for everything from printers to servers
  • Server installation, consolidation, monitoring, virtualization and hosting
  • User support and troubleshooting

We all like free services. ACI offers free one-hour onsite network assessment as well. “Our experts will review your network infrastructure and IT requirements. Before we leave, we will provide suggested ways that ACI can help you maintain IT services, make improvements and plan for the future,” said Laureen Fleming, Operations Manager at ACI.

ACI opened their first office in the Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center (VTCRC) in 1996. Since then, they have occupied three locations in the park with each move accommodating their growing organization. They are now located at 2020 Kraft Drive. “In 1996, the VTCRC was the best place to locate a high-tech business with excellent access to the Internet. That’s still true today, and with the close proximity to the resources of Virginia Tech, as well as the fantastic quality of life surrounding the VTCRC, there really isn’t any place we’d rather be,” Fleming said.

In June 2014, ACI celebrated its 18th anniversary. The company has evolved since its beginning as a small, three-person company and has grown into a business of more than 20 employees.

This September, ACI expanded their offices by assuming the adjoining space in their building. A Google-certified photographer came in to create a virtual walkthrough and published the tour on Google Maps. Visit the ACI virtual office here.

An exciting project ACI has been working on is the development of a new mobile application for Blacksburg Transit (BT) and the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute (VTTI) by partnering with Nomad Mobile Guides. “The goal of this project is to improve scheduling and assignment of buses in order to reduce environmental impact and operating costs while improving the customer experience,” Fleming said. The BT app is available in Apple and Google Play stores. To find out more about the app, visit their IT and Network Support services page.

If you’ve seen a bright blue electric car driving around the VTCRC, that’s ACI’s company vehicle that allows their IT support pros to reach clients quickly and economically. The car is actually cherry red underneath that blue high-tech polymer design!
