This role works closely with Human Resources and Payroll teams to improve processes, integrate systems, and deliver data-driven solutions that support Virginia Tech employees.

What You’ll Do

As an Application Analyst, you will support the design, development, and maintenance of HR and Payroll applications and integrations.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Analyze HR and Payroll business processes and system workflows

  • Collaborate with HR and Payroll staff to design and implement solutions

  • Support integrations, reporting, and troubleshooting

  • Write and maintain technical and functional documentation

  • Communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders

  • Work independently while collaborating across departments

Required Qualifications

Candidates should have a strong mix of analytical, technical, and communication skills.

  • Master’s degree or equivalent training and relevant experience

  • Knowledge of HR and Payroll processes

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills

  • Experience working with stakeholders across teams

  • Ability to write and interpret SQL queries

  • Understanding of relational databases

  • Clear written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to collaborate and work independently

Preferred Qualifications

The following experience is helpful but not required:

  • ERP, HRIS, or Payroll system experience

  • Higher education HR or Payroll systems experience

  • API integrations or low-code platforms (e.g., Boomi)

  • Software development lifecycle knowledge

  • Programming: Java, Groovy, .NET, or PL/SQL

  • Reporting tools: SAS, SQR, or MicroStrategy

  • Web frameworks: Angular or React

Schedule: 40 hours per week
Overtime Status: Exempt
Appointment Type: Regular
Salary Range: $78,000 – $85,000
